Minor Injuries Unit (MIU)
There are some injuries that our patients sustain that would be more appropriately dealt with at the Minor Injuries Unit at the Witney Community Hospital than at the practice. The unit is staffed by trained nurses who have direct links with the John Radcliffe Hospital Accident and Emergency Department in Oxford. It is equipped to deal with most minor injuries and will save a long journey to the John Radcliffe Hospital or the Horton General Hospital.
Minor injuries include:
• minor bumps
• sprains and broken bones
• burns, cuts and bruises
• simple ear, nose and eye complaints such as the removal of splinters and other foreign bodies.
The unit is open seven days a week from late morning to late at night (precise times should be obtained by contacting the unit directly: 01993 209456/8). No appointment is required.
X-Ray facilities are available for some of the day.
Outside these hours patients may be asked to return to the unit the next day or will be directed to the Accident and Emergency Department at the JR or to the Horton General Hospital for more serious injuries.
Many conditions get better on their own and can be treated successfully at home. Your pharmacist may be able to help you with these and advise about medicines you can buy over the chemist's counter.
Family Planning
A full family planning service is offered by the doctors and some practice nurses, including emergency contraception. All the doctors hold the family planning certificate.
Antenatal Clinics
Antenatal clinics are held each week at Eynsham and Long Hanborough. Please contact the surgery or the midwives for details.
Midwives can be contacted on 01865 220457.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists work in the practice. Your doctor may refer you for treatment if it would be of benefit.
Counsellor
Access to NHS counselling can be arranged on referral by your GP. We also have counsellors who work with the practice privately.
